Write a post
FREEPROBUSINESSWHITE-LABELEvery post starts as a Draft: nothing you write is visible on your blog until you choose to publish it.
Start a new post
Click New Post in the menu on the left (the plus icon), or on the Dashboard. To change a post you wrote earlier, find it on the Dashboard and press Edit Post.
12- Formatting, headings, links, lists, images and video.
- Write here, as in any word processor.
Title and address
- Type the Title. It becomes the big heading of the post and its title in search results.
- The Slug is the end of the post's address, for example
yoursite.com/blog/how-we-bake-our-sourdough. Leave it empty and DonkeyCMS makes one from the title; the line under the field shows what it will be.
Tip: You can change the slug of a published post. Visitors and search engines who use the old address are sent to the new one automatically, so old links keep working.
The editor
The toolbar above the writing area has:
| Button | What it does |
|---|---|
| B, I, S | Bold, italic and strikethrough. |
| </> | Marks text as code. |
| Link | Turns the selected text into a link. |
| Paragraph menu | Switches between normal text and headings 2, 3 and 4. The post title is the page's only heading 1, which search engines prefer. |
| " | A quote. |
| • List and 1. List | Bullet and numbered lists. |
| Image | Adds a picture to the text. See Images. |
| Video | Adds a YouTube or Vimeo video from its address. |
| Markdown | Switches to writing in Markdown, and back. |
Excerpt
The Excerpt is the short summary shown on your blog's post cards and in the RSS feed. It is optional: leave it empty and DonkeyCMS uses the opening of the post instead. One or two sentences that make people want to read on work best.
Author
Post as shows your username on the post. Untick it to publish the post without a name.
Preview and save
- Preview opens the post in a new tab exactly as visitors will see it, with your latest changes. It saves nothing.
- Save post stores the post with the status shown beside it. A new post is a Draft.
When you are ready for readers, see Publish and schedule.
