Frame Studio

FREEPROBUSINESSWHITE-LABEL

Frame Studio is where you change your menu and footer after Frame Setup has copied them. Open it in Settings → Frame Tools, then Open under Frame Studio.

Warning: A change here reaches your blog and every page of your website that loads your menu and footer. Back up first: Settings → Backup → Back up now. Every backup includes your menu and footer; restoring one puts your whole blog back as it was then. See Backups and restores.

Change a menu item

Each item under Menu Items has four small buttons:

  • Move left and Move right (the arrows) change the order.
  • Edit menu item (the pencil) opens a window with all of the item's options.
  • Delete (the bin) removes the item.
Frame Studio's Edit menu item window: Text, URL, Title, Open in new tab, search engine hints and Done.1234
  1. The words in your menu.
  2. Where the link goes.
  3. Only for links to other websites.
  4. Close the window. The preview already shows your change.

In the Edit menu item window you can change:

  • Text: the words in your menu.
  • URL: where the link goes.
  • Title: shown when someone points at the link (optional).
  • Hints for search engines (optional): tick nofollow, sponsored or ugc for links to other websites you don't want to vouch for, such as paid or partner links. Leave them empty for your own pages.

Changes show in the preview as you make them. Press Done to close the window.

To add an item, press + Add menu item at the end of the row.

If your site has a separate menu for phones, it has its own Mobile Menu Items row. Copy to Mobile Menu, inside an item's Edit window, copies that item across.

Under Images, press Replace image to upload a new logo. On the Pro plan and above, Choose from Library picks one you already uploaded. Then write a short Alt text: what the logo says, for screen readers and search engines.

The checkbox under the logo decides whether it links to your homepage: Make clickable to homepage adds the link, Remove homepage link takes it away.

Your menu on blog pages

A menu made to sit over a big homepage photo is often see-through, with light text, and often stays fixed at the top of the window. On a blog page there is no photo behind it, so it can be invisible, and it can cover the first lines of a post.

The Your menu on blog pages box finds this and fixes it. The labels at its top say what was found: See-through menu found, Menu fixed to the top found or No display problem found. Check again looks at your website's styles once more, for example after your site's design changed.

Under Menu background, choose one:

  • As on your website: no change.
  • Your website's solid menu: many sites already have a solid look for their menu, used once a visitor scrolls down. The blog then shows the menu that way from the start. This choice appears only when your site has such a look.
  • Your own colors: pick a Background and a Text color.

Leave room for the menu is for a menu fixed to the top: blog pages then start below it, not behind it. The room is measured from your real menu, so it also fits on a phone.

The preview above shows the result at once. Press Save Header & Footer to keep it.

Note: These choices change your blog's pages only. The pages of your website keep their own look, also when they load the same menu file.

Edit the code directly

The Code box under the controls shows the exact HTML of your menu or footer. Change it if you know HTML; the preview follows as you type.

Warning: Keep the first and last lines of the block as they are. Deleting a closing tag can break the layout of every blog page.

Use the Header and Footer buttons at the top to switch between the two. Save Header & Footer saves both at once.

Your website's own pages

If you finished step 3 of Frame Setup, your website's pages load the same menu and footer as your blog, so a change saved here shows everywhere.

If you skipped that step, your website's pages still have their own copy. Change those by hand, or run Frame Setup again to copy your site's latest menu onto the blog.
