Error codes
FREEPROBUSINESSWHITE-LABEL
When something fails for a reason you could not guess from the message alone, DonkeyCMS adds a code in brackets, for example (ER204). Find the code below. If the advice does not solve it, get in touch and mention the code: it tells us exactly where to look.
Simple messages such as "Title is required" have no code; they already say what to fix.
Install (ER1xx)
| Code | What happened | What to do |
|---|
| ER101 | The installer could not connect to the database, or could not create its tables. | Check the database name, user and password in your hosting panel, and that the user is added to the database with all privileges. The host is usually localhost. |
| ER102 | Connected, but creating your admin account failed. | Run the installer again. If it repeats, the database user may lack rights: give it all privileges. |
| ER103 | Connected, but saving the first settings failed. | Same as ER102. |
Email (ER2xx)
Shown by Send test email on Settings → Email. See Email (SMTP).
| Code | What happened | What to do |
|---|
| ER201 | Could not connect to the mail server at all. | Check the SMTP Host and Port. Some hosts block outgoing mail ports: ask them which one to use. |
| ER202 | Connected, but the mail server did not answer as expected. | Usually the wrong port. Use 465 with SSL, or 587 with TLS. |
| ER203 | The secure (TLS) connection failed. | Use port 465 with SSL instead, or ask your host which encryption it expects. |
| ER204 | The mail server refused the username or password. | Retype both. The username is usually the full email address. |
| ER205 | The mail server refused the email itself. | Make the From Address the same as the SMTP account's address. |
Backups (ER3xx)
See Backups and restores.
| Code | What happened | What to do |
|---|
| ER301 | A cloud destination (R2, B2 or Google Drive) refused the request. | Press Test Connection and check the keys and bucket name. The backup itself is still saved on your hosting. |
| ER302 | A cloud destination is switched on but not fully set up. | Fill in every field of that destination and save, or switch it off. |
| ER303 | Google Drive needs to be connected again. | Press Disconnect, then Connect Google Drive. |
| ER304 | The backup file is missing, damaged or not a DonkeyCMS backup. | Download the backup again, or choose another one. |
| ER305 | Google Drive needs a Business license that covers this domain. | Check License & Updates: the key must be saved and the domain on the license. |
| ER306 | This plan does not include Google Drive backups. | Google Drive backups come with Business. |
| ER307 | Could not reach donkeycms.com to talk to Google Drive. | Try again in a few minutes. |
WordPress import (ER4xx)
| Code | What happened | What to do |
|---|
| ER401 | The uploaded file is missing, unreadable or not a WordPress export. | In WordPress, go to Tools → Export, choose All content, download the file and upload that file unchanged. |
Frame Setup (ER5xx)
| Code | What happened | What to do |
|---|
| ER501 | Frame Setup could not open the address you gave it. | Check the address opens in your browser. Otherwise press Choose File and upload one of your site's pages instead. See Frame Setup. |
Newsletter (ER6xx)
See Newsletter sign-up.
| Code | What happened | What to do |
|---|
| ER601 | The newsletter service refused the connection or the new subscriber. | Press Test Connection and check the API key and list. |
| ER602 | A newsletter service is switched on but not fully set up. | Fill in its API key and list, or switch it off. |
Updates and license (ER7xx)
See Updates. For ER701 to ER704 nothing on your blog was changed; for ER705 to ER707 the previous version was put back by itself.
| Code | What happened | What to do |
|---|
| ER701 | The update could not be downloaded. | Try again later. Check that the license key is saved and your domain is on the license. |
| ER702 | The download did not arrive complete. | Try again; it is usually a brief network problem. |
| ER703 | The download was not a valid DonkeyCMS release. | Try again later. If it repeats, get in touch. |
| ER704 | Your hosting does not let the blog replace its own files. | Get in touch and we will help you update. |
| ER705 | Installing the files failed. | Your blog is back on the previous version. Get in touch before trying again. |
| ER706 | A database change failed. | Your blog is back on the previous version. Get in touch before trying again. |
| ER707 | An update was interrupted. | Your blog is back on the previous version. You can try the update again. |
| ER708 | An answer about your license could not be confirmed as coming from donkeycms.com. | Nothing was changed. Press Check again later. If it keeps happening, get in touch. |
General (ER9xx)
| Code | What happened | What to do |
|---|
| ER901 | A folder could not be created. | Your hosting's folder permissions are too strict. Ask your host to let PHP write to the blog folder (folders usually 755). |
| ER902 | An uploaded file could not be saved. | Same as ER901, for the blog/uploads folder. Also check your hosting has free disk space. |
| ER903 | Your hosting stopped the upload before DonkeyCMS saw it. | The file is usually bigger than your hosting allows. Use a smaller file, or ask your host to raise the upload limit. |
| ER904 | An uploaded image could not be read. | The image may be damaged. Open it on your computer, save it again as JPG, PNG or WebP, and upload that. |
