Updates
FREEPROBUSINESSWHITE-LABELNew versions of DonkeyCMS bring fixes and new features. Your blog installs them itself: no FTP, no unzipping. Updates are free on every plan.
Updates are on License & Updates in the menu on the left. Only a Master account sees this page.
12- Up to date, or the new version waiting.
- Install new versions by themselves.
See if there is an update
Your blog asks donkeycms.com once a day. When a new version is out, Tier & Updates shows Update available with the new version number, and What's new lists the changes. A notice also appears on the dashboard.
To ask right now, press Check for updates.
Updates only reach a blog whose license key is saved and whose domain is on the license. Both are set up during the install; see License and domains if the page says otherwise.
Install an update
Press Update now. A screen shows each step as it happens:
- Backing up your site: a full backup, listed afterwards as "Before update" on Settings → Backup.
- Downloading
- Checking the package: makes sure the download is complete and really comes from DonkeyCMS.
- Saving the current version: so it can be put back if anything goes wrong.
- Installing files
- Updating the database
Keep the page open until it says Updated to the new version. It usually takes a few seconds. Meanwhile, visitors see a short "being updated" page instead of the blog.
An update never touches your posts, your images, your backups, your header and footer, or the file with your database details.
Automatic updates
Switch on Install updates automatically and new versions install by themselves the next time a Master opens the admin panel. If scheduled backups are off, the page suggests turning them on first, so you always have a recent backup as well.
When your plan changes
After an upgrade, for example from Free to Pro, the page says Pro features ready to install. Press Update now to add the new plan's features to your blog. Nothing you already have changes.
If something goes wrong
- Update failed: DonkeyCMS puts the previous version back by itself and tells you which one. Your blog keeps working as before.
- The update was interrupted (for example the browser closed or the server stopped): after 10 minutes the previous version is put back by itself, the next time someone opens the blog, and the dashboard shows a notice the next time you open it.
- "Your host does not allow automatic updates": some hosting accounts do not let the blog change its own files. Nothing was changed. Write to hello@donkeycms.com and we will help you update.
