Feature lists are usually written by people who love feature lists. This one is for people with a business to run: what each part of DonkeyCMS does for you, and which plan it comes with. Anything without a plan mentioned is on every plan, Free included.
Writing and publishing
The editor covers what you actually use: headings, lists, links, images, and YouTube or Vimeo videos. If you prefer writing in Markdown, there's a switch for that too. You can save drafts, preview a post exactly as readers will see it, and schedule it to go live at a set time.
Every post can also carry a short FAQ, like the one at the bottom of this page, labeled so search engines understand it.
Two small things we're quietly proud of. Edit a post after publishing and readers see an "Updated" date, and so does Google. And the blog speaks your language: seven come fully translated, and for any other you type the wording yourself.
Looking like the rest of your site
Frame Setup connects your existing menu and footer to the blog, so it looks like part of your site rather than an add-on. Frame Studio, on every plan, lets you change menu links or the logo later without touching any code.
For the look of the blog itself, every plan has light, dark and automatic mode. Pro adds full control over fonts, accent colors, corner style and page width, plus a mode that follows your site's own dark-mode switch.
Getting found on Google and in AI answers
This is where DonkeyCMS does a lot of work you never see. Posts get clean addresses and appear in your sitemap and RSS feed. Change a post's address and the old one redirects to the new one, so shared links keep working. Structured data, breadcrumbs and social preview tags are added for you.
On Pro and up there's also the AI and search visibility check. One button tells you whether ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Google and Bing can read your blog, and if one of them can't, what to ask your hosting company. We built it after our own host quietly blocked an AI crawler. Twice.
Images
Every plan can upload images to posts. Pro adds a shared media library where you can reuse images and write alt text, and it refuses to delete a picture that's still used in a post, which saves you from yourself. Every plan converts uploads to WebP, a lighter format that makes pages load faster. Pro adds a focal-point tool that lets you drag and zoom to decide exactly what stays in the frame, and you can crop any picture in the library to the size social networks like.
Readers and conversations
From Pro up, readers can comment. Comments are protected against spam and wait in a moderation queue until you approve them. Posts show share buttons, related posts and an estimated reading time.
Pro also includes the Recent Posts widget, which shows your latest posts anywhere on your main website. That's how the newest articles appear on our own homepage.
Working as a team
The account owner never uses up a seat. Pro adds four team members, and Business has no limit. From Pro, people are invited by email and choose their own password.
Business adds custom roles, so you decide exactly who can publish, edit other people's posts or change settings. It also adds a review step: a writer submits a post, an editor approves or sends it back, and the writer gets an email with the outcome.
Knowing what works
Business includes simple built-in analytics: visits, your most-read posts and where readers come from. It works without cookies. Business also connects to six popular newsletter platforms and offers a read-only JSON feed of your published posts, if you'd like to show them in an app or another site.
Keeping everything safe
Updates take one click. DonkeyCMS backs up first, and if an update fails halfway it restores the previous version on its own. Full backups of your posts, settings, team and images run on demand or on a schedule, and on Business each one can also go to your own Google Drive, Cloudflare R2 or Backblaze B2 account.
Login protection and form security are on every plan. Security isn't a premium feature.
With Business white-label, which comes with orders of 5 or more one-time Business licenses, the admin panel carries your logo and name instead of ours.
Moving in and moving out
Pro and up can import from WordPress: posts, pages, categories, tags and images. And every plan includes a clean uninstall tool, because leaving should be as easy as arriving.
That's the whole stable. To see which plan these features add up to for you, the plan guide walks through it by situation, and the comparison table lists everything side by side. New to all this? Start with the introduction, or go straight to adding a blog to your site.
